Wormley Rovers 0 - 5 Welwyn Garden City
WELWYN GC enjoyed a recently rare taste of victory in a friendly fixture at Wormley Rovers on Tuesday, comprehensibly beating the Eastern Counties Div 1 South outfit, 5-0.
It was the chance for manager Dean Barker to use 19 players from his squad and to complete three further signings after the game – in goalkeeper Reuben Rabstein, formerly with Barker’s old club, Wingate & Finchley, experienced full-back Jack Mace, ex-Chesham and Ware and forward Danny Wickenden, recruited from Sawbridgeworth Town of the Essex Senior League.
WGC led 2-0 at half-time, through a 10th minute strike from Elliot Bailey, neatly finished on the near post, while Brendan Ocran tapped home a second from close in, after a good left-wing run from triallist Nathan Hall.
In the second 45 minutes, Ocran netted his second, this time an emphatic strike from distance, Matty Campbell-Mhlope came on to notch the fourth, although the effort took a huge deflection off a Wormley defender to beat the home keeper and a further second-half sub Romelle Alomenu, burst through impressively to slide in the fifth, five minutes from time, to complete what manager Barker described afterwards as: “A useful night’s work’’.
WGC (starting line-up): Rabstein, Mace, Sexton, Dupray, Humphrey, Rolfe, McGreevy, Ebelebe, Bailey, Ocran, Hall. Second-half subs:- Todd, Ebengo, Agyaakwah, Campbell-Mhlope, Satterley-Hull, Wickenden, Finch, Alomenu.
