Christmas 2016 Newsletter - Welwyn Garden City FC Social Club

Well firstly, I have to start by wishing all our Members and their families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. We hope that 2017 brings you all that you wish for and more.

With Christmas just around the corner, please don’t forget our Christmas Party which this year is next Sunday 18th December 2016. Normally, this is a Members Party but this year we have opened it up to non members. Santa will be visiting those children who wish to see him and he will have presents for the children as normal. Members children may visit Santa for free and non-members will be charged £2 per child. We hope you will join us for this annual event. And don’t forget Members, make sure you bring your Membership Cards.

In terms of football, things are going really well in the league and at the time of writing this email, we currently sit in 4th position in the Premier league, with several games in hand on teams around us. It’s really close at the top this year so it should be a very exciting second half of the season. We have applied for promotion and you never know what may happen if we continue with our current form. Sadly however, we are out of the FA Vase following a home defeat last Saturday against Ely City. However, we are still in the Premier League Cup (Dudley Latham Memorial Cup) which we are due to play this coming Tuesday in a rescheduled match at Sun Sports in Watford. Anyone wishing to attend, KO is 7.45pm

This Saturday 10 December, we have booked the boxing, Joshua v Molina. The programme starts at 7pm and the kitchen will be open for hot food and drinks. And why not come along a little earlier and catch the 1st team game v Leighton Town. KO 3pm and the kitchen will be open for hot food and drinks so why not make a day of it.

In the meantime, we are always looking for volunteers in all aspects of running the club so if you would like to know more, please do not hesitate to ask. We are a great bunch of volunteers and will make you very welcome. Clubs like ours cannot survive without the help of some very special people who volunteer for us so you will find the work very rewarding. We are also looking for Match Day Volunteers to help with marshalling and hosting on Match Days for all of our teams. If you would like to help, please let me know as soon as possible. Thank You!

Please see full details of events and other points of interest, below.

As a Grass Roots Football and Social Club, it is really hard to survive both financially and practically. And we definitely could not function, never mind survive without our amazing team of incredible volunteers who help in all aspects of our club. All our Officers, main Committee Members, Social Committee Members and Football Committee Members, are volunteers. We have volunteer Match Day Marshalls and helpers across the board so I would like to personally thank every single person who volunteers for us on a daily or weekly basis. Another big thank you goes to all our bar staff who work really hard to keep our bar going strong and again, we could not function without their hard work. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. Hopefully, 2017 will bring you all joy, health and wealth.

For those of you who are not aware, our lovely Bar Manager, Sue Teixeira, has retired from her position with us and I, for one, am sorry to see her go. Whilst she has stepped down in her role, we are delighted that Kim Teixeira is standing in as Manager with Sue’s support, until we can find a new Bar Manager. Sue took over the bar management approximately 6 years ago and has worked tirelessly to improve the standards at the club, which she has done with great aplomb and dedication and there is no doubt that she was a huge influence in the clubs success over the past years. So, on behalf of all the club, I would like to say thank you so very much for all you have done for us. We wish her well for the future and hope she will not be a stranger – pretty sure she won’t be and wouldn’t be surprised if we still see her behind the bar from time to time. If anyone knows a Bar Manager or Club Manager, who is looking for a new opportunity, please could you ask them to contact me as soon as possible. Thank You!

BOXING NIGHT – JOSHUA v MOLINA – Saturday 10 December – Free Entrance – Programme Starts 7pm

We are delighted to be offering the main boxing event this Saturday – the Joshua – Molina fight. The programme starts at 7pm and our kitchen will be opening at 7.30pm for hot food and drinks for anyone wishing to grab some hot food during the event. We have a brand new large screen Television at the far end of the clubhouse along with another one near the bar so plenty of room to watch uninterrupted.

FAMILY CHRISTMAS PARTY – Sunday 18 December – 2pm-6pm

Our Christmas party should be another great event for our family members and their friends and guests. All Members children will see Santa for free and any guests of members/non-members children will be charged £2 per child. Doors open at 2pm. There will be lots of games for the children and a colouring competition and ending with a visit to Santa. So please support our new Social Committee lead, Sue Marmon and come down to the club with the children.
