So much has been happening at our club over the summer break.
We are finally nearly finished the renovation and new build works. As most of you know, this has been ongoing for nearly one year, not at all what we were all hoping for and in fact were promised and we wholeheartedly apologize for the continued disruption this has caused. The 1st set of builders let us down one week before commencement of the works. Due to time restrictions with regards to the Football Foundation, we had no alternative but to find a builder that was available and that we believed we could trust within a 2 week period. We were recommended to Kingswood, and whilst they started off fine, it was soon clear to us all that there were major problems with this company. Not only with their workmanship but also with their reliability. These issues were completely out of our control. With this in mind, the Committee agreed to employ a new builder, Adept Builders for Phase 3 and 4 and I am delighted to advise that they have completed Phase 3 (Members Toilets) which took them approximately 5 weeks from start to finish and I believe they have done an outstanding job. This just leaves Phase 4, the Disabled toilet and moving and re-fitting the new kitchen and work will start on this shortly as we hope to have the kitchen up and running in time for the new season.
Staying with football, what a week we have had. We were delighted to have been gifted 3 turnstiles for our Ground Grading requirements, from Tottenham Hotspur's White Hart Lane ground and they finally arrived late last week amidst a flurry of publicity from the London Evening Standard, local press and radio stations. What a coo and what a lovely gesture from Spurs. It feels great to have a little bit of history at our club) - sorry to all you Arsenal supporters!!!
In terms of actual football, you will find below, a small report from 1st team manager Adam Fisher, who has agreed to remain with us for the coming season in the hope of gaining promotion and he is really gunning for it this year so watch this space!
There's a few bits and pieces coming up in the coming weeks, including a few football fixtures so please see below.
In the meantime, we are urgently looking for volunteers for our Social Committee. This committee helps to put on events for our Members and their families and for our community. The current committee are a great bunch of volunteers and will make you very welcome. This role is ideal for anyone that loves organizing events, coming up with new ideas to raise money for the club and generally someone who just enjoys life!
We are also looking for Match Day Volunteers to help with marshalling and hosting on Match Days for all of our teams, linesmen to help run the line for the Development Squad on a Saturday home game and general volunteering. Clubs like ours cannot survive without the help of some very special people who volunteer for us across all aspects of Club life, so wherever you may choose to help, you will find the work very rewarding. If you would like to help, please let me know as soon as possible. Thank You!

*** MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS 2017/18 ***
As you may know, Membership re-opened for renewal on 1 April 2017. As I have not had a chance to get a Newsletter out to you all, some of you may have been unaware of this. So with this in mind, our Membership Secretary, Maureen Hay has agreed to extend the renewal deadline to 30 June 2017. If you wish to renew, I am attaching a booking form to this email. Please complete in full and return to the club with your payment as soon as possible but before the deadline. We have once again held costs to £10pa for a single adult, £12.50pa for a Family and OAP free (although they will not have any voting rights). If you are new to our club and would like to join as a full member, you would need to pay a £5 admin fee in addition to the Membership Joining Fee.
FOOTBALL 2017/18 - REPORT FROM ADAM FISHER
Its been a very busy summer with the recruitment of a new management team, 7 new players and retaining 75% of last years squad. The new management team is as below:-
Danny Dolan has come on board as an assistant manager and head coach, Dan has played at this level and above and has also coached at professional clubs and is now currently head of recruitment at Watford FC.
Steve Rolfe has come on board as Assistant Manager, Steve has a wealth of experience and knowledge in this league having previously been in management roles at Oxhey Jets, Colney Heath and Cockfosters.
Jordanne Hine is coming on board as Physio to replace Matt who is leaving us to go travelling then start his Masters Degree.
Jordanne is now in her 3rd Year at the University of Bedfordshire doing Sport Therapy, Jordanne has also just recently just become qualified in Personal Fitness.
We have John McGrandles, Carl Mensah and Emmanuele Rowe re-joining us and they are joined by the leagues top scorer last year,Jon Clements from London Colney, Ben Spaull, George Ironton and Jay Rolfe from Cockfosters. Ben L'Honoure from Stotfold and former WGC player Paul Marks from Edgware Town.
The management team and all the players are really excited for this season and cant wait to get started with our 1st game against Baldock Town in the Herts Shield on Saturday 29th July at Herns Way. I hope to see lots of you supporting the Team this year. Adam Fisher
DEVELOPMENT U25 TEAM NEWS
Russell Giblin is holding Open Training Sessions for Potential New Players on Wednesdays from 8pm-9:30pm where you will also have a chance to sign for the team. If you are interested in attending, please bring the correct footwear - No Screw in Studs, and bring your own water. Pre-Season to start soon with a Game Against AFC Hatfield on 12th August @ 2pm. Also against Panshanger U21's and Ickwell and St Warden. Also Sky Sports will be trialling there new "Drone Technology" to analyse our formation and work rate.
THE OLLIE FOUNDATION - FISH AND CHIP QUIZ NIGHT - Saturday 8 July - 7pm
The Ollie Foundation (One Life Lost is Enough) is a registered charity funding suicide intervention skills training for adults working with young people. This training enable professionals to identify warning signs and provide a pathway to help combat suicidal thoughts. You can choose your food preference, either Fish and Chips or a Vegetarian option. The quiz itself will start at 7.45pm and the cost is £12 per head to include food. The organizers are looking ideally for tables of 5 people. There will also be a cake stall and a raffle. So PLEASE, come along and support this very worthy charity. I am attaching the poster and would be grateful if you could share this with anyone you feel may be interested. Thank You!
HERTS CHARITY SHIELD - Herns Way, Saturday 29 July 3pm KO
This years draw see's us pitched against Baldock Town FC in the Herts Charity Shield and this will be the first game of the coming campaign. It would be great to see loads of people to welcome our new Management Team and Players and enjoy a great game of football.
FA CUP 1ST PRELIMINARY ROUND - 5 AUGUST - No details currently as draw not taken place yet
Lets hope for a good draw for this 1st round of the FA Cup. The FA Vase will not be drawn till later but the date for the first match will be 2 September.
CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR - SUNDAY 3 DECEMBER 2017 - 11am-2pm
We are currently taking bookings for this event. If you are a Crafter or have any other interest and would like to book a pitch, or perhaps you know someone who might be interested, then please contact Karen at firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively, I have attached a booking form and if you would like to make a booking, please complete in full and return as soon as possible with your fee. Indoor Stalls are nearly sold out, so please check before booking if you want an indoor stall. We want to make this the best Christmas Craft Fair around so please share with your friends and family. Entrance will be by donation with no obligation and what a great time to get lots of your gifts, decorations and lots of other interesting items in time for Christmas.
WGC FC 3G PITCH
Bookings on the 3G pitch are still going well and most evenings are now booked, either for our own training, Leisure Leagues or our Juniors. Leisure Leagues are running a 7-a-side League on Monday evenings.
